About the Job
  • Meet weekly with each of their teachers.
  • Keep a tracker to understand the needs and progress of each student in connection with meeting the objectives.
    • The teacher and coach decide the format of the tracker but all will use a google doc of some sort.
  • Co-teaching cycles will happen with each teacher once per trimester.
    • These can be 4-6 consecutive weeks.
    • or they can be more flexible depending on teacher and student needs.
  • Coach’s classroom acts as LAB when possible (teachers’ classrooms can become labs for each other though and coaches can facilitate this “lab time” and critical friends’ groups!)
  • Conduct informal observations of classes (non-evaluative).
  • Organizar oportunidades de desarrollo profesional, como observaciones de compañeros.

In coaching meetings, the following can be discussed, but will not necessarily be discussed on a weekly basis:  individual differentiation will be provided based on teacher needs!
Coach asks a lot of questions in this process to guide the teacher.
  • General check in.
    • Liaison between teacher and academic director.
    • Effective listening.
  • Creating lesson plans together using UBD (backwards design); what do we want kids to learn?
    • Support teachers to take more risks - try new things with coach support
  • Creating projects and rubrics together
  • Updating the tracker, discussing the tracker, and coming up with teaching and co-teaching strategies based on data in the tracker
  • Logistical organization and “to dos”
    • Institutional level logistical support (conferences, grades, discipline, etc.)
  • Student check in.
  • Reflections on projects, co-teaching lessons, etc.
    • Reflect on how it went.
    • And how to improve it.
    • Reflection on Academic Director observations.
    • After co-teaching reflection.
      • How did our co-teaching unit help and support kids?
      • What were any challenges or missed opportunities?
      • What are our next steps?
  • Celebrations!  Celebrate the teachers’ processes, risk taking, etc.
    • Unified way to celebrate the teachers at the end of the trimester
      • Letters of gratitude.
      • Sharing at casa meetings so that colleagues can hear new strategies that their peers are using that are working!  This is celebrating and sharing of ideas!
